BSPT in Florida!
Jun 11th
On Sunday, May 16 Andrea and Rusty Fancher made the trip down to Florida for the Rohto Ironman 70.3. Andrea finished 20th out of 101 in her division with a total time of 5:44 (her personal PR). In her race report, she says:
“Florida, as always, was a scorcher! But it was expected, so we sort of knew what we were getting into. My PR to beat was 5:58, so I was VERY happy with my new PR of 5:44! My swim was less than stellar – I was hoping to break 36 minutes, but ended up being 39 min. However, it seemed to pay off because I was super relaxed (apparently a little too relaxed!) in the water and felt great when I got out. My bike was also very relaxed – I stayed in my low/mid zone 2 the whole ride and averaged 19.5 mph with a time of 2:52. So then came the run, which is where I typically DIE and fizzle off….however, I felt great the whole run and just kept trucking along to a total run time of 2:05. The run in FL sucks overall because it is about 75% off road on uneven dirt and grass along a steamy canal, so I was pleased with my time even though it was a bit longer than expected. Overall time was 5:44. I was 20/101 in my AG. This was a great “learning race” for me — I felt really great the whole time, but I was afraid to push it because I wanted to save myself from dying on the run. However, with that being said, I definitely had a lot of steam left at the end so I was slightly bummed that I didn’t pick up my pace on the run…but live and learn – that’s what keeps me out there at the starting line!As I said in the meeting at the start of the season, this is my “prove it to myself/comeback year” after having a baby, so I am very happy that I was able to kill my previous PR and I think I am on the right track to just get better and better from here!”
BSPT Goes the Distance
Jun 1st
Sunday, May 16 – Miranda Forte competed in the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon in Fredericksburg, finishing the 13.1 mile race in an overall time of 1:40:47 as the 30th overall female:
“It was my 3rd half marathon ever and the plan was to better my 2009 time and hit my goal of 1hour42. That morning, the weather was a perfect overcast in the mid 60’s, without much wind, threat of rain or scorching heat, and I felt strong and smooth almost the entire run, until the crippling mile long hill, during the 11th mile, at Mary Washington Boulevard. But with the support of friends and family, most notably cyclists Alex Forte and Brian ‘Stix’ Marsh of the Bike Stop Pro Team riding the course, I stayed motivated and finished with a time of 1:40:47!! A 4 minute best from last year’s MCHH and a personal best! Overall I was 12th Age group, 30th female (out of 2684 women), and 252nd (5422 finishers).”
