Rusty, Papa Rusty, & Tracy

Odyssey Fall Finale 24-Hour Adventure Race (10/16-17):

“Team Papa’s Pace” finished the 24-hour West Virginia race in a little over 23 hours,

starting at 11:30am on Sat, Oct. 16 and finishing at 10:43am on Sun, Oct. 17, and placing 1st in their division.

The team included BSPT members Rusty Fancher and Tracy Darensbourgh with Rusty’s dad, “Papa Rusty”.

Cathy Lee

2010 USA TRIATHLON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

9/25/10

Female triathlete, Cathy Lee, made the trip down to Alabama for the 2010 National Triathlon Championships.  She finished 19th in her division (3:07:26) for the Olympic distance event, qualifying for the 2011 ITU World Triathlon Championships in Beijing, China next year.  Additionally, Cathy placed 1st in her division for the Set-Up Events 2010 Virginia Triathlon Series.  Congrats Cathy!

“Giant Acorn International & Sprint Triathlons” (10/2-3): Rusty Fancher placed 10th in his division in the international distance race with a time of 2:23:48, followed by Ed Norlander who finished 7th in his division with a time of 2:34:37;Tracy Darensbourgh placed 6th in his division with a time of 1:18:12, followed closely by female triathlete, Andrea Fancher, who finished 2nd in her division and 15th overall with a time of 1:19:17 in the sprint race.  Andrea comments on the race day:

“Warrenton Sprint Triathlon” (9/19): Master female triathlete, Cathy Lee, finished 1st in her division and 21 overall with a time of 1:51:41.

“Fawn Lake Sprint Tri” (8/29): BSPT triple tag-teamed the podium this weekend in Fredericksburg.  Cathy Lee placed 1st in her division and 50 overall with a time of 1:33:15; Ed Norlander placed 2nd in his division and 21 overall with a time of 1:24:47; Tracy Darensbourgh placed 3rd in his division and 10 overall with a time of 1:21:00.  Additionally, local Culpeper triathlete and Tri-4-Autism advocate, David Stubbs, finished 1st overall.

Dave Jones

“Ford Ironman Wisconsin” (9/11): Master triathlete, Dave Jones, made the trip out to Madison, Wisconsin for the 2010 Ironman Wisconsin, finishing the 140.6 mile (2.4 mile swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile run) race in a time of 10:47:54 and placing 27 in his division.  “Overall I am very pleased.  It was a tough course and I took 14 minutes off my PR.  The run was tough but it was what I expected, ” says Dave.

Connie Peterson

“West Virginia State Time Trial Championships” (9/29): Connie Peterson placed 2nd in the Cat 4 women’s 16 mile time trial with a time of 41:06.

“Hampton Bay Days Criterium State Championships” (9/11): Michele Scherer placed 3rd in the Cat 4 women’s race in Hampton, VA.

“Fiorucci Virginia State Senior Time Trial Championships” (8/22): Roadie women, Connie Peterson and Michele Scherer, went out to Stony Creek for the VA State TT Champs.  Connie finished 2nd overall for Masters women (1:03:56) and Michele finished 5th in the Cat 4 division.

BSPT representing at the Culpeper Sprint Tri

“Charlottesville XTERRA Triathlon” (8/22): XTERRA Ambassador, Julia Peck, placed 1st in her division and 15th overall (3:05), while Ed Norlander finished 5th in his division (2:38) on the rough, challenging, off-road course at Walnut Creek Park.

“Luray Triathlon” (8/14-15): BSPT took the heat to Luray again for back-to-back international and sprint triathlons, putting more members up on the podium.  Connie Peterson finished 2^nd overall in the sprint; Julia Peck placed 2^nd in her division and 85^th overall in the international (3:11), then came back to place 3^rd in her division and 46^th overall in the sprint the next day; Cathy Lee finished 2^nd in her division and 68^th overall in the sprint; and Ed Norlander placed 8^th in his division and 137^th overall in the international (2:49).  NICE WORK!

“Cycle Fitness Summer Training Series” (8/11): Newly instated female roadie, Alex Forte, stopped off in Bethel, CT for a Tuesday night crit made-up mainly of all male cyclist.  She finished the “A” race (Cat 1/2/3/4) in the back of the men’s chase pack and turned around to finish top 15 in the “B” race (Cat 3/4/5) on the same night.

“Tour of Page County” (8/7-8): BSPT made a showing at the VACA State Championship road race in Luray.  Alex Forte, Michele Scherer, and Connie Peterson competed in the Women’s Cat 4 division, finishing 1^st, 2^nd, and 11^th consecutively.  Additionally, Virginia Tech athlete Mike Breitenbach placed 39^th in the Men’s Cat 4 race.  The next day, the team raced again in the inaugural Luray downtown crit as part of the Tour of Page County Omnium.  Alex and Michele finished 1^st and 3^rd in the Cat 4 race, placing 2^nd and 3^rd overall.  GO LADIES!

“Culpeper Sprint Triathlon” (8/1): BSPT represented with style in Culpeper, placing in podium spots for multiple divisions.  Alex Forte finished 3^rd overall, Connie Peterson placed 1^st in the Master’s division, Dave Jones finished 1^st in his division, Cathy Lee placed 1^st in her division, Ed Norlander finished 7^th in his division, and the collegiate relay team “Three Amigos” (Steven Reynolds, Jacob Aber, and Daniel Austin) took 1^st in the relay division.  Additionally, Charlie Bayne and Patrick Wallach (Eastern View High School athletes) complete their first triathlon, finishing 2^nd and 17^th consecutively in the Novice division.  GO BLUE AND WHITE!

“Charlottesville International Triathlon” (7/25): Ed Norlander placed 2^nd in his division and 25^th overall with a time of 2:42 on the challenging C’ville long course.

“Blacksburg Cycling Classic” (7/24-25): Superwoman cyclist, Michele Scherer, finished 1^st overall in the omnium: 1^st crit, 3^rd time-trial, and 3^rd road race for Cat 3/4.  Additionally, Mike Breitenbach placed 10^th in the omnium: 13^th crit, 6^th time-trial, and 21^st road race.

“BRATS Sprint & Youth Triathlon #2” (7/18): Xzavier Darensbourgh placed 3^rd in his division and 6^th overall in a time of 26:54 at Warrenton.

“USA Mountain Bike National Championships” (7/17): Brian Marsh traveled across country to Granby, Colorado at Sol Vista park, finishing 14^th in his division.

“Colonial Beach Sprint Triathlon” (7/11): Cathy Lee placed 1^st in her division and 23^rd overall in a total time of 1:36 at Colonial Beach.

“Piedmont Triad Omnium” (7/9-11): Jacob Aber traveled down to Lexington, NC for a two-day competition, finishing 31^st in the crit, 26^th in the time-trial, 40^th in the road race, and 45^th overall for the omnium.

“Wednesdays at Wakefield #3” (7/7): Jacob Aber finished 20^th in the Sport division at Annandale.

“Lake Placid Ironman” (7/25): Coach Trey McKinnon completed his first Ironman competition, finishing in a time of 11:17.  He did the 2.4 mile swim in a time of 1:03, the 115 mile bike in just under 6 hours, and the 26.1 mile run in 3:55.  TREY MCKINNON, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!

BSPT celebrates Independence Day at the "Culpeper Freedom 5k" - Daniel, Jacob, Brian, Joe, Julia, Xavier, Tracy, Trey (back); Miranda and Alex (front)

“Culpeper Freedom 5k” (7/3): BSPT represented both as competitors and volunteers at the annual Independence Day 5k road race in town.  Daniel Austin placed 2nd overall male (1st division), Alex Forte was 2nd overall female (2nd division), Miranda Forte was 5th female (3rd division), Jacob Aber was 9th male (6th division), Julia Peck finished 13th female (1st division), and Ed Norlander was 38th male (5th division).  Additionally, Trey McKinnon, Tracy and Xavier Darensbourgh, Brian Marsh, and Joe White came out to volunteer.  Happy July 4th!

“Gravity East Series #3″ (7/3-4): James Boyer took another road trip to Plattekill Bike Park in New York for a downhill stage race, finishing 3rd in his division.
